As a simultaneously functional yet poetic design solution, Placeholder Text is a series of miniature typographic interventions filling rectilinear gaps in the wood flooring on all three floors of the museum. In graphic design, anticipated formatting elements are often filled with placeholder text, most notably 'Lorem Ipsum', before they are finalized with accurate copy. Here, place is held by phrases of interim referencing the fleeting present. Carefully measured, these small installations were laser-cut at The Forge and installed in areas of transience, such as hallways, and doorways. Intended as small discoveries which may be worn away by use over time, Placeholder Text explores the language and locations of what is in-between and in-progress.
