La Mar del Esperanza | Nestor Armando Gil

La Mar de Esperanza is an installation of ocean and water objects, referring to the landlocked status of Elsewhere and Greensboro. Created just after the dissolution of Elsewhere's Under Water World and created partially from the materials of the deinstalled Wishing Well, it references a history of efforts to bring natural bodies of water into Elsewhere. However, the objects and twists of blue fabric are grounded in the small room, mocked by its size, asphyxiated by its windowlessness and saturated in artificial light, demonstrating the difficulty of finding water in dry dust and ultimately holding only the hope of water.
