The Perceiver of Sound League (pSL) with Elsewhere Museum to present a new and unique kind of program for everyone who makes or listens to sounds: Sound Research Studio.

Artists, spiritual seekers, musicians, scientists and the curious are invited to join in a new series that combines guided meditation, sound research presentations, and a group sound improvisation, even utilizing the museum and its contents as instruments. Intuition, imagination and inspiration are on the menu as we ponder topics like Mantra, Emptiness and Resonance, the Science of Sound and more.

This new series is a cross between a skill-share, a think tank, and an improvisation workshop, introducing fascinating concepts from a variety of fields in a way everyone can understand and to welcome participants into a life of sonic experimentation.

Greensboro is familiar with the Perceiver of Sound League through the improvised music series it hosted at Glenwood Community Bookstore 2016-2018 (Videos of this series are still popular on YouTube) and through its presence on Greensboro radio in the past. This new series is a cross between a masterclass, a think tank, and a improvisation workshop, introducing heavy concepts in a way everyone can understand and then bringing them to life in sonic experimentation.

As reported by Robert Lopez in GoTriad, “We’re going to talk about mantra, about the music of the spheres, stuff like that, then we’re going to have group vocal work, large group improvisation to work out the concepts. We’re going to investigate the scientific and spiritual properties of sound as a group in the series... There’s going to be a little bit of talking at the beginning, where we’re going to give some very succinct but powerful concepts about whatever the subject is that month. Then we’ll do some work with it, vocally, sonically. It’s going to be scientific research/discussion group/book club.”

The first season will feature presentations from Gary Heidt, Aurora Echo, Gavin Glass, Laurent Estoppey, Cassandra Weston, and Tom Woods.
