Rural Residency
The Rural Residency annually collaborates with contemporary, socially-engaged artists for year-long, site-specific, project-based explorations to share narratives and socioeconomic issues surrounding rural regions of North Carolina with a larger public. Using Elsewhere’s platform, this curated art residency celebrates rural culture, brings awareness to under-acknowledged narratives, and deepens connectivity to contemporary conditions of the South.
As part of the Southern Constellations (SoCo) curatorial initiative, the Rural Residency serves as an incubator for the collaborative production of critical artwork exploring life in Tier 1 + 2 Counties, and supports Elsewhere’s mission to expand experimental art practices and dialogues across the South.
