Wood Library

Ambivert: Section (1,2,3) created by sleeper is a series of three extravagant wearable sculptures that lead a kind of double life. On display in the accessories room at museum, they stand alone as visually compelling art objects encasing the forms of mannequins as architectural dwellings for the body.

The Wood Library is organized by rough length, and offers the hand and eye one end of every piece of wood in the collection. The length, cross section, and color of every piece of wood is discernible at a glance, and removal and storage are made elegant. There is a returns cart, and only Wood Librarians and their trusted associates shelve wood, to avoid misplaced pieces. True to the Wood Library's namesake, these practices are borrowed from the book library, which employ two strategies in maintaining legibility and order - a standard method of storage, display, and indexing (book vertical, spine out, linear alphanumeric codes), and custodians (librarians).  And, honoring that other quieter feature of book libraries, the Wood Library is a place for the eye and the future to wander.
