Touch Telephone | Carrie Schneider

Inspired by Two Stage Transfer Drawings by Dennis Oppenheim and Pauline Oliveros’ concept of deep listening, Touch Telephone is an evolving composition using touch instead of sound. Participants sit in a circle of hands on backs, wearing blindfolds and earplugs. Without the ambient senses of sight and sound, the participants react instead to one anothers’ transmission of the touch. Several scores play with the struggle of transmitting touch as a pre-lingual, simultaneous circuit.
