To Preserve, Destroy | Hồng-Ân Trương

project-in-process.png

Working within the alcove of Elsewhere’s “The Fabric Castle” and the installation “Far Away,” Troung is creating a video and installation based on its deconstruction. Filming a careful archival analysis of “Far Away” as a historical event – going through its materials, considering the historical traces of the materials as well as the previous artists’ interpretation of the materials – the video will suggest the psychoanalytic notion of the death drive, one that always threatens to destroy the archive. “Far Away” will ultimately be dismantled and preserved in a large box, and the space will be transformed into yet another iteration of itself.
