Tilt, Mulligan + Kyle the Unicorn | Linsey Clark-Ryan

Tilt, Mulligan and Kyle the Unicorn are games created by Lindsey Clark-Ryan that engage with the traditional museological practices of collecting, classifying, and displaying objects in ways that point to the role of decision making in these practices. Through close observation, reasoning, luck, happenstance, and quick reflexes players sort ordinary objects- beads, marbles, golfballs- into sensical and nonsensical categories. As playful and sometimes absurd tools, these games draw attention to the work of creative thinking and imagination in acts of categorization and to ways that the meaningfulness of objects supersedes their classification in any given order. Clark-Ryan based her project on Elsewhere’s ever ongoing practice of ordering and organizing its dense and sometimes unruly collection of objects. The collection itself was used to build the games and as pieces for them.
