Tagtool / OMAi: The Greensboro Session
Tagtool/OMAi: The Greensboro Session
September 18-October 3, 2014
Tagtool/OMAi: The Greensboro Session was a series of workshops and interactive outdoor projections led by Markus Dorninger of The Tagtool Crew, a group of projection artists based in Vienna, Austria.
The Tagrool Crew is part of Austria’s Office of Media and Arts International (OMAi), which produces an ipad app called Tagtool. This app can be used to create digital drawings and animations for both play and profession. Tagtool is perfect for adding visuals to music, for public art projection events, for set and lighting design, and for collaborative games. It is downloadable through itunes. As part of the Greensboro sessions, a free version of the app was available locally.
The Tagtool Crew’s participation in Greensboro’s 17 Days Festival marked the U.S. debut of this dynamic public art experience – in which participants became “projection painters” by having their electronic artwork projected onto the sides of buildings and other large-scale structures throughout the city.
Elsewhere hosted two free workshops for people interested in trying out the application at the museum and learning about how to use Tagtool in a variety of artistic contexts. We also hosted an interactive closing event in our garden with musicians and dancers.
Tagtool/OMAi: The Greensboro Sessions was sponsored by The Public Art Endowment, an initiative of the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro. The Greensboro Children’s Museum was another collaborator on the project.
