J. Gamble worked at a nearby piano shop and wanted to create a wall of sound for Elsewhere. This interactive installation was the product and it explores themes like play, accessibility, like things, and music theory.

  • “Test your skills at Super Piano Bouncy Ball. Grab a bouncy ball and try to shoot it through the target. If you miss the target, hear the installation come to life!”

  • “2005 on tour/ fall of 2005 comes back. J and Kat work on super piano bouncey ball, sound pontoon.” - GoogleDoc called “Book | Other's memories”

2020 notes from J.: Ed had brought in the piano. Took it apart and got rid of the other pieces. Piano carcass was already there. Graham and I were there, it was winter time with Kat Lee. George and Steph were in school in Durham. A bouncy ball hit the thing. Graham and I looked at each other. J. went to work on it. [It] [u]sed to go to the ceiling with all kinds of percussive elements.

In 2011, Ross Huff made a recording of Super Piano Bouncy Ball for a Kids Radio Playshop:

At Extravaganza 2015: Sports of All Sorts, the team made Super Piano Basketball. “Try your hand at this riff on Jay Gamble’s dissonant music installation Super Piano Bouncy Ball. Shoot some hoops, make some noise!”

At Extravaganza 2016: Revolve, there was a piñata filled with 500 bouncy balls.

Super Piano Bouncy Ball is sometimes falsely attributed to “Jake Amble” and “James Holt” in our records.
