New Walks in an Old Field | Jana Harper

jana-harper-01-800x530.jpg

Over the course of her residency, Jana Harper created a series of interrelated actions and objects that explore the undersides of objects. The photographic sets she produced as part of this research take a forensic approach by isolating their subjects for close study. Each set is organized by functional typology: collections of bagged and wrapped books, clusters of bound objects, plastic playhouses, and foam egg cartons. The photographs expose the particular logic of the set in terms of their material variation, construction, and formal qualities. They also provide evidence of how these things were made, came to Elsewhere and have been used.
