Make Safe, Make Space | Nsenga Knight
For her residency Nsenga Knight hosted a series of conversations for members of the black community in Greensboro to explore connections between perceptions of physical safety and psychological well being. These conversations centered around the restructuring of Leslie Kelman’s “Safe Place” fabric fortress, through the addition of a window, new flooring and resecured walls.
As an extension of this work, Knight also created a series of stitched lithographs with instructions provided by workshop participants that weave together language used to guide physical transformations of space and to instigate social change.
