Inside Out Theater | Laurencio Carlos Ruiz
Elsewhere hosted world-renowned artist Laurencio Carlos Ruiz for a month-long collaboration titled, “INSIDE OUT”. During his residency, Ruiz renovated our storefront window into a facility for incubating public engagement and inter-organizational collaboration through southern hospitality. Educators, students, performers, and downtown developers were all involved in the project.
Ruiz performed QUENAMICAN (depicted above), “a puppet show that honors those who die in their attempt to migrate for a better life, migrate North, across the Southern Border, to the place where, somehow, life goes on. According to Aztec mythology, that place is called Quenamican. This show casts light on what happens to all immigrants who, for many reasons, leave their homeland behind and, consequently, leave a part of themselves behind, their Absence.”
This project was made possible through a grant from the North Carolina Arts Council.
