[Insert Title] | Rebecca Noone
[Insert Title], an installation in the library created by Rebecca Noone, encourages museum visitors to arrange book titles into poems and short stories on shelving that looks like a sheet of ruled notebook paper. The interactivity fostered by the installation draws attention to and extends the function of the museum as a platform for connecting museum visitors who act as content creators, distributors, consumers, and collaborators.
The design of the installation is strikingly simple and accessible. The activity of manipulating books is light, fun, like child’s play. What floats this project however are currents of serious intellectual inquiry that have done much to shape our contemporary cultural landscape – from recent debates on the nature and importance of participatory culture to strategies of text and object appropriation and citation in the arts that have percolated through culture from the early 20th century onwards.
