I wish. . .” was an open ended question posed by Joan Vorderbruggen to Elsewhere visitors and passing pedestrians during downtown Greensboro’s “First Friday” on May 3rd,2013. Participants were asked to share a wish on a small sheet of paper with the simple prompt, “I wish. . .” Twenty one wishes were selected from hundreds gleaned that evening. Those few were then transcribed to fabric, and embroidered in each authors own hand and finally embellished with more than a thousand Swarovski crystals. The resulting work of up-cycled textile art is both a functioning drape for Elsewhere’s “StoryBank” booth and a public intervention that presents an opportunity for pedestrians, residents, and visitors to ponder and connect with one another via the spirit of a wish.
