Artist Tattfoo Tan embedded at Rankin Elementary, March 22 - April 14 for FoodLab. Part of Elsewhere’s collaborative laboratory, we are partnering a teaching artists with a local school to playfully engage students with creative skill building, critical thinking, and doing. In FoodLab, students get hands on with the culinary arts, food heritage, and healthy eating habits.

Tattfoo Tan is a New York City based artist who collaborates with the public on issues relating to ecology, sustainability, and healthy living. His decade long trilogy of projects: Nature Matching System, Sustainable. Organic. Stewardship. and New Earth have been shown widely and made into replicable manuals to inspire others to take action. His work is project-based, ephemeral, and educational in nature.

Tan led 15 Rankin students in his “New Earth Resiliency Training Module,” a program that teaches an ethos of self reliance and of living closer to the earth, especially in an urban environment. Drawing upon its surrounding resources, NERTM treats the city as a catalyst for building relations with various neighborhoods and communities.

FoodLab is supported by the North Carolina Arts Council and Lincoln Financial Foundation.
