Cooking Memory Remembrances | Lía García ‘La Novia Sirena’

Cooking Memory Remembrances
Tuesday, November 30th, 6-8PM EST
Free, please
RSVP as space is limited

Cooking Memory Remembrances is reactivation of a 2017 performance called Cooking Memory. In the performance, Lia Garcia returned broken ceramics to their home in Elsewhere’s kitchen, posing questions:

  • In times of violence towards trans lives, where does the resistance come from?

  • What is there beyond hegemonic femininity?

  • What does it mean to touch?

  • What stories are told in the kitchen?

The audience was invited to explore tenderness, love, and femininity as spaces of resistance, attaching hand-written notes to the broken ceramics. She states, “It is important to be able to talk about what is broken in our lives in a space of intimacy, memory, and affection.”

Since the performance in 2017, Lia has often thought of her precious box of broken ceramics at Elsewhere, the red dress from the performance hanging in her closet waiting to be reanimated. Back now, four years later, Lia filmed her search for the box. On Tuesday, November 30th, she will restage the performance, welcoming the audience into an intimate space to reflect together on the original questions, the passage of time, and Lia’s evolving story.

Wine and snacks will be served.

All are welcome and the event is free, we just ask that you RSVP as space is limited.

All attendees will be masked when not eating or drinking and will stay socially distanced.
