She believes Elsewhere explorers the history of humanity in a new refreshing way that allows for the preservation of history and interaction with the past to seamlessly blend. Her goal is to keep places like Elsewhere thriving in hopes that history will be kept relevant for future generations to enjoy.
Fhalyshia Orians
2016 House(pitality) Curator
Fhalyshia Orians is an illustrator and crafter who finds inspiration in observation. Interested in the practice of art and aesthetics in the seemingly mundane activities of everyday life, she enjoys overlooked or unseen interventions that play with our relationships to memory, our senses, and the world around us.
2015 Intern
Fhalyshia emerged from a corn field in Northwest Ohio roughly five years ago, and has since received her B.A. in Painting from Guilford College. Her hobbies include crocheting, talking to plants, making playlists for every conceivable situation or mood possible, and taking walks with no intended destination. Can generally be found drinking coffee on the fire escape in the wee hours of the morning.
Sophie Trauberman
Sophie Trauberman just sold her machete and skipped town from Portland, Oregon. She is happiest when she is exploring the (she thinks not-so-solid) boundary between institutional organizing//community organizing//life organizing and art-making. Her ~academic~ background is in aesthetics, postmodern social theory, and 20th century american history. Her ~non-academic~ background is in meeting facilitation, event organizing, gamelan music, baking, landscaping, and having strong opinions. Sophie loves to garden, sing karaoke, fry eggs, dance, and support U.
Abena A. Poku
Abena was born and raised in the urban jungles of Accra, Ghana where she discovered her love of art from her pet monkey Jojo. She currently resides in the arctic tundra of Aurora, New York where she is actively pursuing a B.A. in Visual Arts. Areas of special interest include how museums are reconfiguring traditional modes of display.(\__/)(='.'=)(")_(")
Kelly Jones
Kelly Jones is terribly fond of manatees, glitter, good stories, and dance parties. She is a North Carolinian who has a tendency to abandon her home state for large chunks of time for the charm and confusion of New Orleans. Kelly switches hats often; she has been a baker, a banker, a bartender, a ghost writer, an educator, and an events organizer. In her spare time she writes poetry, runs The Gambler Mag, splashes around in bodies of water, and tries to come to terms with the concept of infinity.
Evelyn Walker
I think art has something to do with reality, truth, identity, access, misunderstanding, play, thing-hood, and possibly foolishness. There is also tragedy, comedy, and circus. These things sort of crash against each other, like a gyroscope of perception and experience, and whatever there is outside of that. I like to work collaboratively, creating a collective search party; a discursive art practice that uses play, improvisation, and the real world to feel our intersecting identities at work. Sometimes this looks like sculpture. At other times it looks more like an improvised play, or immersion journalism, or Kaprow's Happenings, or any number of art actions. I have a BFA from Indiana University's sculpture program. I'm moving towards an art practice in which I look at art making, arts administration and empowerment, and public activism and volunteerism as overlapping and sometimes indistinguishable practices. I'm excited to enact my internship with Elsewhere as a manifestation of this approach to art-doing.
Hannon Welch
Hannon is an East Coast gone West kind of cat. She travels with her collaborator, Paul, and prefers things wild'n'out and definitely with ranch dressing. Or not.
Armando Rios
Armando was raised in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas where he also received his education in architecture at the University of Arkansas. He is constantly in search for the next adventure whether it is a road trip, moving to a place he has never seen before, sleeping in the passenger seat of cars, or sitting in silence. You can usually catch him daydreaming about the beach and the sun's warm rays. Armando was once asked, “What are you the best at?” to which he replied, “Being me.”
Georgie Payne
Georgie was born into a family of river otters on the banks of the Potomac not far from the heart of D.C., so she slipped right in to the merry crew at Elsewhere. She's most well known as DJ Dirty Dishes and one-half of Young Payne.

Daniel is a musician and composer from central California. He has spent the last few years picking the banjo and eating burritos in Portland, OR, where his best friend is an Edgar Degas painting of a hazy looking lady in blue that lives at the Portland Art Museum.
Michelle Lee
From Richmond Virginia, Michelle is a video vixen gettin' it dun across the USA. A recent post-grad from the University of Virginia, she is interested in experimental filmmaking, performance art, and social practice. A mind reader, hand massager, and committed bad-dancer, her international notoriety is inevitably coming soon.
Danny Wirtheim
Danny Wirtheim explores the world through creative writing and filmmaking. He’s currently in his final year of a BA in Media Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where he’s still trying to figure out what his English professor meant when she said, “Danny, you write like Ziggy Stardust looks.”
Courtney McCracken
Courtney grew up on a house boat on the intracoastal waterways of the Atlantic ocean where she was bestowed the gift of bubble launching by the local mermaids. On a standard day she is dreaming of building tiny houses and extracting the essence of creative living through efficient objects. She is studying for her Masters in Sculpture as well as Creativity and Innovation at the University of Georgia in Athens, and she received her BFA at the University of North Florida.
Molly Hastings

Her favorite activities include reading comix, knitting, and dubbing cassettes, as well as existing as a perpetual amateur with ever increasing enthusiasm. Every dog is her friend.
Sam Metzner
Sam originates from the farmland outskirts of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She is a bit of a wanderlust, always looking for a way to travel and see new spaces. Bicycling while listening to rock n roll is a big hobby of hers, as is partaking in and making peculiar creations. She currently studies Art and English at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC.
Lyric Morris
Lyric has wandered to Elsewhere from the rolling farmlands of Iowa, where she studies Graphic Design at a tiny liberal arts college. Much of her work explores juxtaposing the rigid formalities often associated with typography and design with unexpected messiness — often in the form of nature, embroidery floss, or scribbles. She also enjoys writing/performing slam poetry, and sleeping in places with no roof over her head.
Katie Shlon
Katie Shlon is an artist/musician from Columbia, South Carolina. She is pursuing her BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and is in her final year. As an artist, her interest lies in the relationship between physical spaces, natural aesthetics, and social relations.
