Eliza Fernand
Eliza Fernand’s (Oakland, California) work revolves around the transformation of materials and ideas. She is inspired by craft supplies, relationships, forces of nature, small histories, bodily functions, scraps of things, mysteries, and flowers. Born in Arkansas, Fernand grew up in Massachusetts, Colorado, Michigan, Oregon, New York City, and California. She has also lived and worked at artist's residencies in Layton, New Jersey; Normandy, France; and Oakland, California. She received the Visual Arts Award in Sculpture upon graduating from Interlochen Arts Academy in 2001, and the Sculpture Departmental Award at her graduation from Pacific Northwest College of Art in 2006. Fernand feels at home in Brooklyn and the Bay Area, and other places in between.
Residency: July 23 - September 1, 2009
During her residency Eliza created Bathing Suits and Memory Objects. Check out Eliza’s blog.
