GREENSBORO—In alignment with Black August 2020 events across the U.S., The Historic Magnolia House will host Porch Sessions, an evening of dine-in, drive-in and virtual music experiences. The ticketed event and fundraiser will support The Historic Magnolia House, one of the featured spots on NC's Green Book site, listed in 6 Editions of the Negro Travelers Guide.

Tickets are available now to reserve a drive-in spot near the house to watch live music performances. Tickets for socially-distanced outdoor seating will also be available for purchase and a special menu prepared and served by the Magnolia House will be provided.

This fundraiser will support the onward progress of Phase II in The Magnolia House Foundation’s strategic plan, addressing structural repairs to the building and focusing on the development of virtual programming centering on the history of the Magnolia House.

About The Magnolia House

The Magnolia House served as a nationally-acclaimed bed and breakfast for traveling African Americans during America’s Jim Crow era, with a history of notable guests. Owned and operated by Arthur Gist, the Magnolia House Motel was denoted as a highly recommended place to stay for Negro travelers of North Carolina by the Green Book. Today, the Magnolia House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and identified as a “Distinctive Destination” by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Out of 300+ Green Book sites to have operated in the state of North Carolina, the Magnolia House is 1 of 4 sites still in existence.

Co-owners, Sam Pass and Natalie Pass Miller are forging ahead in a strategic plan that envisions a space where generations to come will actively engage with and make history at the Magnolia House. The strategic plan consists of 4 phases, the final result being: sustained investment to the economic development of the Gorrell Street Redevelopment Area through the fully restored historic lodging space, an African American Museum as well as programming that contributes to the local artist community of the city of Greensboro.

Please join us August 15 for a joyful celebration of this important history, from the comfort of your own car, as you enjoy delicious food from Magnolia House itself, and listen to great music from its very own front porch.
