Extravaganza 2021 is a street party, a flashlight tour of the museum, and intimate dinner parties in people’s homes
10/13/21
In one month, Elsewhere will host its most ambitious Extravaganza to date.
Extravaganza is Elsewhere’s long-running annual fundraiser, now in its 12th year. Due to COVID, Extravaganza was cancelled in 2020. A 24-hour virtual event was created in its stead called Fort Night.
Extravaganza is back this year, but the museum will not host a 3-floor costume and dance party. Instead, the museum’s lights will be off and guests will enter in small groups for an extraordinary guided flashlight experience. Upon exiting through Elsewhere’s Garden, guests will travel around to the front of the building to participate in a street party on S. Elm St. between Lewis and Bain.
Longtime Elsewhere collaborator, Quilla (aka Anna Luisa Daigneault), is curating the live performances taking place under the big tent on S. Elm St. She holds the title for most performances at past Extravaganzas as both musician and DJ.
Performers booked to date include musicians Demeanor, Maia Kamil, DJ Martin J. Dolan, and SunQueen Kelcey, as well as dancers J+K the Twinz.
Preceding the tour and street party, participants are invited to host small gatherings and they will receive an Elsewhere In A Box kit to recreate Elsewhere experiences in their homes. Their bathroom becomes The Confessatorium. Objects gathered from around their house are used for each guests’ “readings.” Love notes are sent to one another by paper airplane.
Topher Lineberry has joined the Elsewhere team as a Producer for the event. Born and raised in Greensboro, Topher was a repeat visitor in 2004 at the age of 13, becoming Elsewhere’s first official Intern starting in 2005. They served with Elsewhere as an intern in multiple capacities until 2009. Lineberry has since become an artist, researcher, and administrator, exhibiting work nationally and internationally and working for a variety of arts-based and academic institutions. Having completed their MFA at Hunter College in New York in spring 2021, Lineberry honors their roots through continued support of Elsewhere.
