Elsewhere and VAE Raleigh are developing Pivotal Fund as an extension of The Andy Warhol Foundation for Visual Arts Regional Regranting program.

This fund will allow us to support artists who also exist in an area of North Carolina historically overlooked for substantial financial investment for artists and their creative endeavors. Their contributions to the burgeoning culture of our region is largely overlooked and under resourced.

The region served by this fund includes nine counties: Forsyth, Davidson, Guilford, Randolph, Alamance, Orange, Durham, Chatham, and Wake. Elsewhere in Greensboro sits in the “Triad” (Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point) on the west side of this region. VAE in Raleigh sits in the “Triangle” (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) on the ease side of this region.

Pivotal Fund will provide 75 emergency relief grants of $800 to artists yet in 2020. It will prioritize the most vulnerable artists among us: BIPOC artists, non-gender conforming and transgender artists, and artists with disabilities.

In 2021, Pivotal Fund will shift to focus on fostering burgeoning visual arts culture in the region through more substantial grants for self-identifying visual artists. We will select artists whose work is experimental and takes risks; that challenges contemporary visual art practices; that may be emerging or part of an already sophisticated and developing body of work; that is relevant to its place and cultural context. We will focus on supporting project-based, public and socially engaged works, and artists with the potential to give back creatively to their communities.

Pivotal Fund is scheduled to launch in November 2020. More details forthcoming!
