A Wicked Silence explores the consequences of the Eugenics program in North Carolina.  From 1919-1977, forced sterilization of patients of public-funded institutions that were judged to be 'mentally defective or feeble-minded' by authorities” which later evolved into impoverished populations. This  dance performance project will bring these stories to light in context to  new policies that  are being proposed which greatly affect the life and liberty of the marginalized in the 21st century.

This production is an immersive site-specific performance presented by Greensboro Downtown Parks, Inc. This project is supported by the N.C. Arts Council, a Division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, ArtsGreensboro, and Elsewhere Museum.

Take a look at this article about A Wicked Silence in YES Weekly from March 22, 2021, and the amazing promo photos of A Wicked Silence (further town this page) that feature performers moving around the museum wearing clothing from out of the Elsewhere Wardrobe! Did you know that we make loan agreements with theaters, dance companies, and other entities to use our collection of vintage clothing in their productions?

Elsewhere has hired alumni artist, Antoine Williams (‘16), to produce designs for mobile and modular set elements that will be fabricated from materials in our collection. We are also providing financial support, project consultation, costumes and props, supplies, space, equipment, and outreach for this important collaborative production.
